The Race to Dubai is a season-long competition to crown the DP World Tour’s number one player.
The entire DP World Tour regular season leads to the Race to Dubai finale, with each DP World Tour event offering points to players.
In 2024, Rory McIlroy won the Race to Dubai for the third time in a row. He secured victory at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, two shots clear of Rasmus Hojgaard, to rubber-stamp his dominance on the European rankings again.
In 2023, McIlroy became the first player to have won the Race to Dubai before the final event of the season. He sat more than 2,000 points ahead of Jon Rahm with a maximum of 2,000 points available to the winner of the DP World Tour Championship.
He could be set to win the title again, unless English star and three-time DP World Tour winner Marco Penge can chase him down in the DP World Tour playoffs, which constitute the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship.
When does the Race to Dubai end?
Just like last year, the top 50 players in the rankings are eligible for the DP World Tour Championship in 2025. This event is the finale of the Race to Dubai season, which is on from November 13 to 16.
What is important to distinguish is that the winner of the DP World Tour Championship doesn’t necessarily win the Race to Dubai. In 2023, Nicolai Hojgaard won the season-ending event, but McIlroy won the Race to Dubai due to his performances across the season.
And of course, in 2025, McIlroy will absolutely win the Race to Dubai if he wins the DP World Tour Championship again.

The prize purse at the DP World Tour Championship is $10 million, with the winner banking $3 million for their troubles (about €2,764,461).
The purse rose to $10 million in 2022, which became the event’s record prize purse since its inception in 2009 when Lee Westwood won by six shots from Ross McGowan.

Race to Dubai prize money 2025
In 2025, the leading 10 players from the Race to Dubai Rankings will earn a share of $6 million from a bonus pool. To be eligible for this, they must have played in four DP World Tour events and must have also played in the DP World Tour Championship.
To no one’s surprise, the Race to Dubai prize money for the season-long winner has gradually increased.
The Race to Dubai prize money purse did drop in 2020, the year of the Covid-19 pandemic. Lee Westwood won it that year and pocketed €2,279,736.
