Then you’ve come to the right place. Keep scrolling for the full list of Ryder Cup winners including a brief history of the iconic tournament along with every course to host the event.

Ryder Cup winners list

Before developing into the global event we know today, the Ryder Cup was originally only contested between Great Britain and the United States.

While the two nations had competed against one another on several occasions during the 1920s, the first official Ryder Cup took place in 1927 at Worcester Country Club, Massachusetts, where the American team were victorious on home soil.

Thereafter, and just as we know it today, the tournament would take place every two years with each country alternating hosting duties.

Team USA’s win would set the tone for much of the early narrative, with the Americans winning four of the first six Ryder Cups before the competition took a 10-year break during World War II.

After the hiatus, the Americans continued their dominance, winning 11 of the next 13 contests until a decision was made to extend the British team to Great Britain and Ireland in 1971.

This was then expanded in 1979 to include continental Europe, a decision which dramatically altered the competitiveness, and profile of the event.

Led by a new generation of continental golfers including the great Seve Ballesteros and Antonio Garrido, Team Europe would find newfound success, picking up iconic wins at Muirfield Village and The Belfy before passing the torch on to a new breed of European talent.

Since 1979, Europe has held the edge over the Americans, winning 12 times compared to their rival’s nine.
