It was a case of so near, yet so far for two of the PGA Tour’s biggest names
The FedEx Cup Playoffs will be without Justin Thomas and Adam Scott.
Neither of the major champions will be involved after finishing outside the top 70.
Both travelled to Sedgefield Country Club knowing they needed a big week to make it in – but finished in 71st and 72nd respectively.
Scott did almost everything he could on the final day of the Wyndham Championship.
The Australian, who started the week in 81st in the standings, fired a final round 63 and finished in a tie for seventh.
Thomas, who has struggled all season long, came home tied twelfth. Just nine points separated Thomas from Ben Griffin, who was the last man in.
Had JT chipped in on 18 at his last hole, he would have moved up into T7.
Thomas and Scott are not the only two big names to have an enforced break from the PGA Tour over the next few weeks.
Shane Lowry, Gary Woodland and Danny Willett have all missed out.
Billy Horschel had the chance to make it, having been tied for the lead through 54 holes. But a final round 72 saw him fall back to finish fourth, when he needed a solo second finish to make the top 70.

Only one man made the move into the top 70 following the Wyndham Championship. That was Lucas Glover, the winner at Sedgefield Country Club.

He started the week outside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings, but after earning 500 points for his win, Glover moved to 49th, and now has a real shot at making next week’s BMW Championship.
