Jason Day has signed a deal with Malbon Golf with his tenure at Nike from 2016 coming to an end…
A new year has brought a new Jason Day.
The Australian revealed he’s signed a clothing deal with Malbon Golf on Tuesday.
The former PGA Champion posed for pictures in his new apparel in images posted to X/Twitter.
“It’s a new Day. Excited to be joining #teammalbon,” Day wrote online ahead of competing in this week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions.
This announcement marks the end of Day’s tenure with Nike Golf which began in 2016.
He reportedly signed a deal worth $10 million a year, including wearing Nike shoes, clothing and a hat. This deal was signed shortly after Nike ended its equipment rollout.
Day has become Malbon’s first PGA Tour ambassador, seven years after its inception.
The brand was founded by Stephen and Erica Malbon in 2017 and aims to “provide quality products, tell stories, and invite customers to take part in the community of like-minded thinkers that we have created.
“The brand is fueled by meticulous and tasteful customers who have a passion for golf as well as expressing themselves through what they wear,” as per the website.
Jason Day: Malbon Man, but could other players end their Nike deals?
Day’s cut-off with Nike comes as speculation surrounds one of the company’s most recognised athletes.
Rumours suggest Tiger Woods’ deal with the Swoosh could be up soon, but the 15-time major champion wouldn’t be pushed on the subject.
“I’m still wearing their product,” he said while playing in the PNC Championship before Christmas.
Woods leaving Nike would represent a most significant split in an association born in 1996 when Woods burst on to the PGA Tour scene.
There are also whispers Nike could exit the golf industry altogether, while TWLegion claimed its golf apparel division could be run through Srixon/Cleveland back at the start of December.
In other apparel news, the X/Twitter tracker account of Xander Schauffele has posted images of the American wearing Descente clothing as opposed to Adidas.
