Adam Long achieved something no player has done on the PGA Tour since 1992 in Mexico last week…
If you hit 50% of fairways in your round, you’d probably sleep well.
But what if you hit every fairway?
No first cuts. No trickling off the side. No errant bounces off a mound into the longer grass.
This type of perfection is just a dream for most of us, but it was a reality for Adam Long at the World Wide Technology Championship.
The 36-year-old hit all 56 fairways at El Cardonal. A 100% record across four rounds hasn’t been done on the PGA Tour since Brian Claar at the 1992 Memorial Tournament.
The host venue was expected to provide forgiveness off the tee with its large fairways – but not to this extent.
Long is ranked 13th in overall driving accuracy on the circuit, but not even his expertise could’ve warranted matching an untouched, 31-year-old mark.

“It’s something I’ll be able to say forever. Some sort of bragging rights or an interesting stat at trivia nights,” Long said to PGA Tour.com.
“I was like, ‘Ahh come on, don’t make it the last one! It’s alright to miss one, but don’t make it the very last hole!’
“So we get over the crest, maybe 100 yards before the ball, and it’s sitting right in front of the bunker and it was mine.
“It hung on for dear life. It was only a few feet from going into that bunker.”
Long continued his fairway fantasy into the Butterfield Bermuda Championship where he reached 60 consecutive fairways on the tour – setting a new record in its history.

Russell Henley currently leads the way in driving accuracy on the PGA Tour, having hit just over 71% of fairways in the 2023 season.
The tour average for finding the short grass is 58.74%. Perhaps this gives us weekend hackers some perspective.
Long didn’t reach the heights of Erik van Rooyen on the Los Cabos course in Mexico last week, but even the South African missed only four fairways all week.
Out of 5,740 drives in 72 holes, 5,194 ended in the fairway. This is quite remarkable.
