Having established herself as one of the top LPGA Tour performers, Charley Hull has also grabbed people’s attention worldwide with her on-course and off-course antics.
Hull’s popularity online is born out of her success on the fairways, but it seems to have increased tenfold this year after a couple of moments from her 2024 season went viral.
In the final round of the Annika, Hull was filmed walking down the fairway with Nelly Korda laughing and doing the arm-waving and fist-pumping dance that President Donald Trump has made viral.
“I love it when he does his little dance,” she said, also later describing him as a legend. “I love Trump. I think he’s brilliant.
“I like how he just says things, he doesn’t care what people think and he’s straight to the point.” She added: “I wish he was head of the UK. I just like him as a person. He’s a little better than our Prime Minister.”
Since becoming President for the second time, Trump has thrown himself into negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, a deal which seems impossible to compromise despite Trump’s glowing optimism.

Before expressing her admiration for President Trump during the 2024 US Women’s Open, Hull was spotted smoking a cigarette during the event which is uncommon in the game. Fans and followers responded with shock, amusement, and admiration after this moment was recorded and widely shared on social media. Hull’s honest admission of her smoking habit was unexpected yet relatable.

“I only smoke. I hardly drink. I don’t need to drink because actually I can have a fun time without it,” Hull said after the final round at the 2024 US Women’s Open.
“My dad smokes 40 a day since he was 12 years old and now he’s 75, and my nephew smokes who is like 25. My whole family smokes, so it’s not something that I’ve noticed being odd.

“I hate smoking. I used to curse at my dad when I was younger for smoking, but I think it’s to do a little bit when I’m stressed. I was a bit stressed last year and I just vaped, and I wanted to stop vaping, and even though smoking is not better than vaping, it’s just you can vape indoors all the time.
“I thought if I smoke, I’m going to go outside and smoke a cigarette. When it’s a slow round on the golf course I smoke quite a few more than I should.”
On March 17, 2025, Hull posted a clip of herself and fellow golf pro Ryan Evans on a golf course. In this clip, she said she would stop smoking and made a bet with Ryan which said if she couldn’t stop smoking for two months, she would give him £10,000.
Quite the wager.

Charley Hull smoking moment wasn’t her only viral highlight
Ahead of the Olympic Games in Paris where Hull competed for Team GB, she was told she could not smoke while playing Le Golf National.
“It’s a habit but I won’t do it this week. I don’t think you’re allowed.”
“I think it will,” she said to how it could affect her chances. “Because it relaxes me a little bit. But it is what it is.”
On the final practice day ahead of the 2024 Solheim Cup, Charley Hull was also filmed using a spectator’s lighter to spark up a cigarette at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

She might have downplayed the significance of her smoking, but there’s no downplaying one distinctive club twirl which grabbed the attention of both casual viewers and golf enthusiasts.
A video of the Kettering-born star performing a complex club twirl at the 2024 LPGA Dow Championship clocked up thousands of views with many people sharing comments and drawing comparisons to Tiger Woods, another figure known for his iconic twirls.

Whether she’s talking about her game, her personal life, sharing anecdotes, or just entertaining on the golf course, it is no secret as to why the English star has captured the attention and affection of golf fans around the world and grown such a large fanbase.
Hull’s personal life was a subject of intrigue in 2024 as she was romantically linked to Gary ‘Gaz’ Beadle, a star from the reality TV series Geordie Shore. When Beadle shared a picture of the two of them on social media, fans and the press started to speculate that they were dating.
