Linn Grant crushed the field at the Scandinavian Mixed to write herself into the record books. And, writes George Cooper, it couldn’t have come at a better time

Scandinavian Mixed

Linn Grant has made history by becoming the first woman to win on the DP World Tour after cruising to a dominant victory at the 2022 Scandinavian Mixed in Sweden.

The 22-year-old, already a two-time winner on the Ladies European Tour this year, crushed the field as she won by an astonishing nine shots over Marc Warren and fellow Swede Henrik Stenson – who had been co-hosting the tournament alongside Annika Sörenstam.

The co-sanctioned DP World Tour and LET event saw 78 men and 78 women competing on the same course for the same prize pot.

Grant led by two going into the final round at Halmstad, but a majestic 64 on Sunday saw her pull away from everyone to ease to a ruthless victory and pull off the trailblazing feat. Her 24-under par finishing score was 14 shots ahead of the next best female player, Gabriella Cowley.

By winning in such sensational fashion, Grant not only cements herself in history but sets a crucial precedent moving forward, helping to highlight the ever-increasing quality of women’s golf while proving the value of mixed gender events, in which female players can reign supreme against male competitors.

“This shows that we can play against each other in a fair competition,” Sorenstam said. “I hope people see the quality of women’s golf.”

Grant’s coolness on the course was then matched in her post-round victory speech, as the now three-time LET winner urged her achievement to help raise the profile of women’s golf.

“I just hope that people now recognise women’s golf, from sponsors, to the LET, through to the men’s tour. Hopefully this pumps up the women’s game,” she said.

Now that’s how you grow the game.
