John Daly is reportedly in line to be the subject of an upcoming film about his life starring two-time Oscar nominee Jonah Hill

You know when you see a rumour and you just think, ‘Please let this be true’? Well, this is one of those moments.

John Daly is apparently to become the subject of a biopic starring Jonah Hill. Not only that, Anthony Maras – who directed the remarkable Hotel Mumbai – is also set to be involved.

Daly, who counts the 1991 PGA Championship and The Open four years later among his 19 wins as a professional, needs little introduction.

What can you say about a man whose nickname is “Wild Thing” and has a Wikipedia page that features lengthy sections on controversies during his PGA Tour days, his difficult relationship with alcohol, his health issues, gambling problems, lawsuits, and four marriages?

As for the man who will play him, Hill shot to fame as one of the three leads in 2007 teen comedy Superbad, with Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and has since earned two Oscar nominations for his supporting roles in both Moneyball, alongside Brad Pitt, and The Wolf of Wall Street, with Leonardo DiCaprio. You’ll have most recently seen him in apocalyptic political satire Don’t Look Up on Netflix – also starring DiCaprio, as well as Jennifer Lawrence.

So how did Hill and Maras end up involved in the project? According to Above the Line, who broke the news, the team at production company Hideout Pictures have a prior relationship with Daly as well as the Australian director, who, in turn, is friends with Hill.

Stay tuned, folks.
