His outfits have been the talk of the Masters – but it seems one item of Jason Day’s tournament scripting was just too much for Augusta National.
The Aussie star confirmed he was asked to remove the sweater vest – with Malbon Golf Championship emblazoned in large letters across the front – following the end of his weather-delayed first round on Friday.
“They asked me to take it off – the vest off yesterday,” Day told reporters following a third round 76.
“Yeah, the busy one,” he added. “Respectfully, you do that because it’s all about the tournament here, and I understand that. I respect the tournament. That’s what we’re here to do is try and play and win the green jacket.”

Jason Day Malbon sweater vest: ‘They said, ‘can you take it off?’ I said, ‘yeah, no worries’
Asked why the request had been made, Day said: “I don’t know, I didn’t ask. They said, ‘can you take it off?’ I said, ‘yeah, no worries’.”
Day said the scripting had been chosen by Malbon – “they send you the scripting and say, this is what we want you to wear Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and I’m like, okay.” – but said he didn’t really listen to any comments as he walked round the course.

His trousers, on both Thursday and Saturday, have also hit social media headlines for their baggy nature and Day did joke the wind was having an impact.
“If it’s down breeze, these things puff up pretty quick.”
Now have your say
