11 shots?! DP World Tour pro suffers nightmare hole in Spain
We had a ‘one-of-us’ klaxon on the DP World Tour on Thursday as Lukas Nemecz struggled to one astronomical score in Spain…
Lukas Nemecz’s first round of the Andalucia Masters became a forgettable one when he completed the 14th hole.
The Austrian started solidly with a birdie on the opening hole having teed off on the 10th at this storied DP World Tour event.
Making the cut was likely in the back of Nemecz’s mind, but this was about to be blown out of the water (excuse the soon-to-be-apparent pun).
Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is a tough track to negotiate at the best of times with its narrow fairways and intimidating water hazards.
Nemecz pushed his tee shot on the par-5 14th into the lake. After dropping in front of the huge body of water, his next ball suffered the same fate, having travelled only 83 yards.

His fifth shot left him in the fairway with 224 yards uphill to the putting surface, but as the DP World Tour’s shot map shows, he pulled his approach left of the target above a greenside bunker.
The subsequent chip travelled all of four yards. It was now beginning to get ugly.
His eighth shot found the middle of the green, some 53 feet away. Nemecz took three putts to find the bottom of the cup and the nightmare was complete.
11 shots on what was statistically the easiest hole of the day in Spain.
Unfortunately, more catastrophes followed. Nemecz added three double-bogeys on his second nine which included just two birdies.
The 34-year-old carded an 82 – which was remarkably eclipsed by Alejandro Canizares who struggled to an 84 on Thursday.
But Nemecz showed plenty of character in his second round. His three-under 69 didn’t mean he made the cut but should still give him some confidence as he looks to secure his Race to Dubai future over the next few weeks.
