The Genesis Scottish Open is such an exciting event, especially where the last few years have been concerned.
Renaissance in East Lothian, very close to the likes of Gullane, North Berwick and Muirfield on Scotland’s golf coast, has become the home of the event and has seen iconic moments in recent years.
In 2024, Robert MacIntyre rolled in a superb putt on the 72nd hole to beat Adam Scott and to win the title he had always dreamed of winning. This added to his already memorable season, in which he also won the RBC Canadian Open on the PGA Tour with his father caddying for him.
“It’s unbelievable. My reaction when the ball dropped on 18 said it all. I almost lost my voice now. It’s the one I wanted and it’s the one I got. It’s just, I’ve watched it as a kid growing up, and it meant a lot. It was really the only one that I could go and watch,” MacIntyre said.
“I can’t believe it’s happened.”
His victory was made all the more poignant given in 2023, Rory McIlroy birdied the final two holes, including a super one on 18, which saw him arrow an unbelievable 2-iron to the 18th hole for a birdie. By doing this, McIlroy ripped MacIntyre’s heart, who was the clubhouse leader.
This year, there is a two-tee start in the final round to avoid the fog due on the golf course. Rory McIlroy is in the final group with Wyndham Clark and Chris Gotterup on hole 1.
