Oh dear! Tour pro dunks four balls in water on way to astronomical score
Santiago Tarrio had 15 minutes to forget on Saturday as he struggled his way to a septuple bogey at the K Club
The ‘one of us’ klaxon sounded loud and clear at the Horizon Irish Open on Saturday.
It was Spaniard Santiago Tarrio’s turn to be sneered at by club golfers after a disastrous turn of events on hole 16 at the K Club.
Tarrio certainly wasn’t scaring the top of the leaderboard in pursuit of his first DP World Tour title.
He arrived on the par 5 having already made two double bogeys and a triple bogey on the par-3 12th hole. But the worst was yet to come.
Tarrio found the fairway and aimed for the green from 237 yards out – only to find the water short of the putting surface.

He dropped another ball from 125 yards away but found the water again. He continued to dunk two more balls in the water after that.
Tarrio found the green with his 10th shot and took two more to get in the hole for a septuple bogey. 12 shots is largely unheard of for an amateur, let alone a professional.
Rory McIlroy played the hole in a quarter of the shots Tarrio took when he nailed an approach shot from 116 yards for an eagle in the second round.
The 32-year-old carded an 89 after adding his third double-bogey of the day on the par-4 17th hole.
He finished the week with a 76 on Sunday but gave the crowd a parting gift by making an eagle on the 17th – four shots less than the day before.
It’s not all bad, Santiago.
