Wentworth ready to host historic BMW PGA Championship

The 2023 BMW PGA Championship is set to host thousands of fans at Wentworth this week, providing world-class entertainment both on and off the course

The BMW PGA Championship 2023 will further solidify Wentworth’s place as the DP World Tour’s most storied venue.

The famed West Course is set to hold the 102nd European Tour group-sanctioned event in its history this week, more than any other venue by a wide mark.

It will also be the 40th successive time Wentworth has hosted the tour’s flagship event and the 44th time in total.

World No.2 Rory McIlroy, Masters champion Jon Rahm, defending champion Shane Lowry and FedEx Cup winner Viktor Hovland will tee it up alongside a litany of other golf stars at Surrey’s “Festival of Golf.”

Billy Horschel, Tom Kim and Adam Scott of the PGA Tour are also playing at Virginia Water to further enhance the quality of the field.

Off the course, live music will come from Rudimental’s DJ Locksmith and DJ Jax Jones on Wednesday and Saturday, while the Wombats will bring the curtain down on Sunday.

Other performances will come from some yet-to-be-named artists during the day too.

This boosts the spectator’s off-course experience, as does Wednesday’s Celebrity Pro-Am featuring a multitude of famous faces such as football star Gareth Bale, actor Tom Holland, and England cricketers Stuart Broad, Jimmy Anderson and Harry Brook.

The Championship Village provides fun for all the family with the Mega Putt Challenge, a chipping challenge, and Titleist will also offer an on-site golf-ball fitting service.

A nearest the pin simulator and ‘BMW Long Drive’ challenge are also among the activities visitors can enjoy in between watching the world’s best golfers stroll the famed fairways of Wentworth.

“We could not be more excited for this year’s BMW PGA Championship and it is shaping up to be the biggest and best event our club has hosted in its distinguished history of elite golf tournaments,” said John Blanch, general manager at Wentworth Club.

“The West Course is perhaps in the best condition it has ever been and is going to provide a firm but fair test for the elite line-up of players, while the spectators will be treated to a better viewing and off-course experience than ever before.

“Our members and staff cannot wait to welcome the famously respectful and knowledgeable British golf fans to our hallowed grounds at Wentworth Club and we hope everyone enjoys a spectacular week of golf.”

This Rolex Series event, the fourth of the season, could have significant repercussions for the Race to Dubai, as well as being one of the last DP World Tour events before the Ryder Cup.

Luke Donald and the entirety of Team Europe are playing this week to fine-tine their games ahead of the big match against America in Rome.
