We’ve all had a 10 on our scorecard before. We don’t all also shoot 10 birdies in the same round to finish five-under.
That’s what England’s Charley Hull did on Friday in the opening round of the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF, being played at the Centurion Club.
Hull was two-under-par through five holes of her opening round this morning, thanks to early birdies on the third and fifth holes.
Things quickly went downhill for the two-time LPGA Tour winner, as she recorded a quintuple bogey on the par-5 sixth hole, carding a 10 to drop from two-under to two-over in the space of a single hole.
However, she fought back brilliantly. She birdied her next hole, the seventh, before then also carding another birdie on the ninth to make the turn in 38, somehow only one-over-par despite her early mishap.
After a couple of pars to start the back nine, Hull went on a run of four birdies in a row from 12 to 15, including a nice two at the par-3 14th. After parring the 16th, she then made birdie on both of her last two holes to come home in 30, and to finish the day at five-under-par.
Hull is currently tied for the lead in the clubhouse with Nelly Korda, after the American carded a much more sedate round of 68.
The Englishwoman comes into this week’s Aramco Team Series event in good form, having finished runner-up at the US Women’s Open at Pebble Beach at the weekend.
The tournament is the second PIF-led event to be held at the Centurion Club in two weeks, after Australia’s Cameron Smith won the LIV Golf London event on Sunday.
