Bushnell Ion Edge GPS comment

Can I make a confession? I’m not a big fan of watches. I don’t wear one – I’ll tell the time with a mobile phone – but the Bushnell Ion Edge GPS Rangefinder Watch could be the product that changes my mind.

Usually, I find a timepiece difficult to wear. They’re invariably chunky and, at some point in the swing, they’re banging into my wrist.

But the Ion Edge has been a welcome surprise in that regard. It sits nicely in position, isn’t too large, and the strap is also comfortable.

Switch it on and it’s a touchscreen face. You swipe up and down to move holes and right or left to view hazard yardages or enter scores and statistical information.

I checked off the front, centre, and back measurements alongside a laser and those yardages are pretty accurate, which quickly generated a lot of trust.

The GPS, with more than 38,000 courses preloaded, gets into gear quickly and the battery life is most impressive. I’ve had this on my arm for six rounds now and have only had to charge it once.

I’ve eulogised before about the merits of the Bushnell Golf Mobile App (link to Phantom 2 review here) and linked with the Ion Edge you’ve got formidable distance measuring tools at your fingertips.

There’s nothing hugely flash about this product. There isn’t a colour screen. It doesn’t give you snazzy hole layouts. But it’s simple to use right out of the box, the battery lasts forever, and the yardages are rock solid. Really, what more do you want?
