It has seemed like a procession all week to crown Nelly Korda the Chevron Championship queen.

But Brooke Henderson stormed up the leaderboard on Saturday to serve notice that the destiny of the year’s first women’s major remains very much up for grabs.

Henderson fired in seven birdies and an eagle as she came from way back to move firmly into contention before the third round was hit by a weather delay

With lightning in the air and the players forced to leave The Woodlands course, in Texas, the Canadian was eight-under for the day, and -10 for the tournament, with one hole still to play.

The two-time major winner’s incredible moving day run serves up the prospect of a sensational final round as Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul, the World No. 10, jumped into pole position.

She led the way, at -11 when the hooter sounded, following birdies at the opening the hole, the 8th and 11th.

The 21-year-old, tied fourth at the Chevron a year ago, is in prime position to win her first major title.

But Korda, looking for a fifth consecutive victory on tour, remains poised – going three-under through her first 11 holes to be tied with Henderson at -10 and just one off Thitikul’s lead.

Elsewhere, Jin Hee Im is playing in her first major but the 25-year-old, in her rookie season on the LPGA Tour, continues to impress at Carlton Woods. Two adrift of Thitikul at -9, she is making just her fourth start of the season.

England’s Lottie Woad, meanwhile, found forward progress harder after making the cut at her maiden major.

The Augusta National Women’s Amateur Champion was even par for 13 holes of her third round and four-under for the tournament. That left her tied for 20th as the players waited for the bad weather to clear.
