The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is one of the most lucrative events on the DP World Tour, and has paid out some of the largest prizes in recent years.

As it was one of the formerly named European Tour’s Rolex Series events, it comes with a $9 million payout. In 2024, Paul Waring earned the biggest payday of his career by winning this event, his second DP World Tour win, and banked $1,530,000 for his troubles.

“It just means so much to so many other things that come with that win,” Waring said, who also earned a PGA Tour card through the DP World Tour’s formal pathway to the US circuit.

“That said, early in the week, to actually keep control of myself in the way that I did today, I’m really proud of myself, and (caddie) Alex (Evans) was absolutely amazing. Playing partner was amazing, Shane was great as was Niklas (Norgaard). I’m a bit taken aback right now.”

Although this is one of the biggest purses on the tour, it is still dwarfed by the purses we see on the PGA Tour and in the LIV Golf League. On the PGA Tour, there is a series of Signature Events which carry purses of $20,000,000, and winners’ cheques of $4 million and $3.6 million, depending on which event you win.

In the LIV Golf League, the winner earns $4 million at each event as well, and that has been the case since the Saudi-funded league started in 2022.

Nonetheless, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship prize money purse offers the players the chance to earn much more money than at most other DP World Tour events.
