You know how much we love a good hole-in-one story here at NCG Towers, but what happened to one Arkansas golfer has taken it to a whole new level!
Just when we thought we’d heard it all, we read about how Austin Clagett is taking legal action against one golf club for more than $50,000 after an apparent marketing blip.
When Clagett made an ace on the 10th hole at Morrilton Country Club during its ‘Tournament of a Century’ scramble, he thought he had hit the jackpot and won himself a new car.
And why wouldn’t he? Taking inspiration from the big leagues, Morrilton had promoted a competition to win a Ford F-150 Supertruck before the golf tournament to any player fortunate enough to make a hole-in-one.
Valued at $53,595, Clagett couldn’t believe his luck when he struck gold with a perfect shot from 187 yards.
But as he arrived back at the clubhouse to find out how to pick up his new ride, he discovered there was, in fact, no prize at all.
According to the Daily Mail, the club had not secured necessary insurance to obtain the truck from Ford, but proceeded to promote the prize – which remains on their Facebook page – anyway.
After all, the odds of a hole-in-one are a distant 12,500-1…
But the risk backfired spectacularly. And Clagett is now suing the club for the value of the car, as well as any attorney fees, in his bid to get justice.
“This is about doing what is right,” his lawyer told KATV. “Mr Clagett lived up to his end of the deal when he got the hole-in-one and now Morrilton and Jay Hodge Ford of Morrilton want to crawfish out of the deal.
“If they didn’t want to pay up when Mr Clagett got a hole-in-one, they shouldn’t have offered the deal.”
