Watch PGA Tour star pull off extraordinary ‘hole-in-one’
Denny McCarthy produced one of the greatest ‘hole-in-one’ feats we’ve ever seen at the FedEx St Jude Championship – one so unique it doesn’t even have a ‘1’ to show for it on the card.
Teeing up in the first event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the American had everyone in hysterics and required rules intervention after his tee shot at the par-4 2nd landed in the most improbable of places…
Nope, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, McCarthy’s ball really managed to land inside the cup holder of a fold up camping chair.
“Long-range hole-in-one,” he joked while assessing the extraordinary lie. “That’s a hole-in-one!”
Eventually, McCarthy was given an appropriate drop below where the spectator’s chair was situated. As per Rule 15.2 – expertly explained by our very own Steve Carroll here – if an object is obstructing your ball anywhere on the course except for the green, you can lift it, remove it, and drop the original ball – or a replacement if you wish.
So that’s exactly what McCarthy did, before then going on to produce one of the most ludicrous birdies of all time.
