Smith caps off wild week with ‘unreal’ fan gesture
Cam Smith had just about the wildest, most hectic week possible as he teed up at the FedEx St Jude Championship, making headlines for all the wrong reasons by dropping hint after hint he’ll be signing for LIV Golf before getting caught up in a rules fiasco with the PGA Tour.
But despite turning a chunk of the golf world against him, Smith has now detracted some of that hate by producing an incredible gesture after his ball struck a fan at TPC Southwind during day three.
As reported by a patron on Twitter, Smith’s tee shot on the 7th hole smashed into one unlucky admirer, knocking his phone out of his hand while bruising his thumb in the process…
And, after taking the time to write down his number, Smith then delivered on the promise, sending the fan a signed glove for his troubles along with a brand new iPhone.
While we know Smith won’t be short of pennies any time soon with his inevitable LIV switch looming, this was still an incredible gesture from The Open champion, who now takes a week off following his wild weekender after pulling out of the BMW Championship.
