Smith all but confirms LIV switch after fiery comment
It’s official… Cam Smith has just completed the hat-trick of ‘tell me you’re joining LIV without telling me you’re joining LIV’ hints – and this time he’s barely even trying to hide it.
First there was The Open, where the Aussie refused to rebuke claims he’s switching to the breakaway league moments after hoisting the Claret Jug.
Then there was his press conference after sources reported a deal was done – Smith again refusing to comment despite insisting he’s an “honest man” about 20 seconds earlier.
And now, following a round which included the most awkward of encounters with Scottie Scheffler, he’s been at it again, completing the trilogy of hints and all but confirming he’s joining LIV after telling Sky Sports, “I’m ready to cop some heat” at the FedEx Cup St Jude Championship.
“It’s just their job mate, and that’s what they’re there to do,” Smith said when asked about journalists speculating he’s moved to LIV. “They’re there to sell stories and I’m sure they’ve had a few looks at it the past few days.
“I’m ready to cop some heat. I understand that’s what I’ve said, but I’m here to win the FedEx Cup Playoffs. That’s my number one goal. Whatever happens after that will come from me.”
Well, at least we now know Smith will fit in with LIV’s assemble of fiery characters…
