Son Antem Overview | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts

Two Stunning Golf Courses

Like a lot of resorts on the NCG Top 100 European Golf Resorts list, Son Antem is the proud home to two glorious 18-hole golf courses.

The two courses - the East Course and the West Course - were designed by Francisco Lopez-Segalés. The East was the first to be inaugurated at the venue, back in 1994. The West Course then followed in 2001.

The East Course
Lopez-Segales’ first design at Son Antem was the East Course, which was opened in 1994. The course has a classic design, and although there does not seem to be much danger on the golf course, scoring will not be too easy to come by.

With a hotel already on the resort, the Par 72 course was designed to complement the hotel and to make Son Antem into a proper golfing venue. The course measures at just over 6,800 yards from the tips, but with four teeing options, it is a course that can suit golfers of all levels.

Five lakes come into play when you take on the East Course at Son Antem, with the most difficult hole being the par-4 15th. The approach on 15 has to carry over water to a narrow green, which then has danger lurking on all sides.

The West Course
Seven years after the East opened, Lopez-Segales also designed the West Course, which was designed to be the championship course at Son Antem. It is slightly longer than the East, but only by approximately 50 yards.

The key points of the West Course are the undulating greens, which are more severe compared to its older brother. There are narrow, tree-lined fairways throughout the West, as the course winds its way through the Mallorcan countryside.

The course runs in two loops of nine which return to the clubhouse, meaning that you don’t necessarily have to play all 18 on the West Course at once. Water features on four holes, including the closing hole. The 18th is the hardest hole on the West, with the water hugging the left side of the fairway on your way back home.

Son Antem Golf Academy

Along with the two courses, Son Antem is also the home to a wonderful Golf Academy, with practice facilities for all golfers. Son Antem’s Golf Academy is the home to a very unique driving range. It is circular in shape, with golfers able to hit into the middle from all angles.

There is the capacity for 200 golfers due to the nature of the driving range at Son Antem. The Golf Academy at Son Antem also features an approach green, with both bunkers and a chipping area for the short game skills to be worked on. There is also a 1000 square metre putting green, with undulations akin to the West Course.

The three-man team of Ramon Mestre, Pau Padros and Pablo Saldana can offer lessons in a range of languages, including Spanish, Catalan, English and German. The team of professionals at the Son Antem Golf Academy teach golfers of all ages and abilities, with the Junior Academy running from September to June, in line with the school year.
