Emporda Overview | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts

Two Championship Golf Courses

The resort underwent changes in 2020 to modernise and renovate the two golf courses, and Emporda is now a stunning place to visit, play golf and relax on the northeastern tip of Spain.

The resort has two 18-hole courses - Emporda Links and Emporda Forest. Both of the courses at the resort were designed by world-renowned architect Robert von Hagge. These layouts were von Hagge's first creation in Spain, and the two courses force golfers to think about how to play each hole.

Emporda Links
The Emporda Links brings a touch of British links golf to the northeastern part of Spain. The Links course at Emporda winds its way through dunes, lakes and strategically placed bunkers, with von Hegge using the natural environment to his advantage with this design.

The 18-hole course measures more than 6,800 yards, and requires precise shots and some creativity to achieve good scores. 10 of the 18 holes on the Links Course at Emporda feature water hazards with the signature holes being the par-3 11th and the closing 18th.

The 11th measures at just over 180 yards from the back tees, and is played across one of the many water features on the track. Meanwhile, the closing hole is a long par-5, more than 550 from the tips. Water holds the left side of the fairway, and it is a true three-shotter to finish.

Emporda Forest
The Emporda Forest Course, also designed by Robert von Hagge, uses the pine forest that was on the resort originally. The course winds its way through the Mediterranean pine trees, while there are also a number of lakes that seem to attract golf balls throughout a round.

One of those lakes comes into play on the 6th, which is a glorious hole. Players have the option of taking on the green, with it being a 330-yard par-4, but the majority will not. The fairway is split into two, running left and right of the lake, with the same lake also folding round the right side of the second fairway. Water is then in play on the finishing hole of both nines, with both approach shots having to be hit over the water.

Emporda Golf Academy

As well as the two championship golf courses at Emporda, the resort is also the home to the Emporda Golf Academy. The academy holds the latest technology devices to help learning become more noticeable and significant.

The Academy uses equipment such as the Garmin Approach R10, a radar that detects the player’s stroke to analyse the metrics of the shot that cannot be seen by the naked eye. The use of this technology helps Pol Bech and his team of golf professionals to guide golfers in their practice and learning of the sport.

The Emporda Golf Academy also offers golf lessons for both adults and juniors. Individual classes for all ages and groups are available from the Academy, with those classes being adjusted to the needs of each individual. The Emporda Golf Junior Academy offers tuition to young competitors, and those looking to get into the sport for the first time.
