Sprowston Manor | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Sprowston Manor is one of four Norfolk venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list and plays host to a championship golf course that has held the PGA EuroPro Tour and the Trilby Tour in its history. There are also solid practice facilities, accommodation under the Britannia chain and a beautiful health and leisure club on spa.

The golf course, which was originally designed in the 1980s, has recently been renovated by Ross McMurray. It is a course that has played host to several championships, and the Par 71 layout stretches to just over 6,500 yards from the back tees. 70 bunkers, water hazards and tree-lined fairways are all obstacles to overcome on your way to a good score. There is also a floodlit driving range, practice putting green and chipping area, and the ability to undertake coaching and tuition at Sprowston Manor.

The accommodation comes under the Britannia chain, a brand you will find at a couple of other venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list. Double Rooms, Family Rooms and Suites are all available at the resort, with Accessible Rooms also available for those that require them. The Suites come in two forms – the Double Suites and Four Poster Suite – with the latter being the top of the tree in terms of accommodation.

Sprowston Manor Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Championship Golf Course

Sprowston Manor is home to a championship standard golf course, which has been remodelled by Ross McMurray in recent years. The Par 71 course runs at more than 6,500 yards from the tips, and there are 70 strategically placed bunkers and several water features which are ready to catch golfers of all abilities out. The course has played host to the PGA EuroPro Tour and the Trilby Tour.

The opening couple of holes at Sprowston offer early birdie opportunities. The 2nd, a 480-yard par 5, is the best of those, if you can avoid the seven bunkers littered down the hole. The 7th is one of the quirkier holes on the property. A sharp dog-leg left that only requires a long iron or hybrid off the tee to reach the corner. Some may be tempted to cut the corner, but danger lurks. 8 is very much drivable at just 265 yards from the back tees, but there are five bunkers and plenty of trees around.

As the front nine started with birdie opportunities, the back nine begins with bogey possibilities. 10 is a par 3 of more than 210 yards, while the 11th is a 470-yard par 4 with water on the left side of the fairway. 16 is of a similar vein, measuring 475 yards from the tips, and with three bunkers fairway bunkers awaiting errant drives. The closing hole at Sprowston Manor is a long par 5, and a three-shotter for most. Four fairway bunkers are in play off the tee, with the hole then slightly bending to the left and back towards the clubhouse. It is a birdie opportunity for some, but for others, it could be a card wrecker to finish.

Health & Leisure Club

Sprowston Manor is home to a Health and Leisure Club for those guests that want to work out during their stay in Norfolk, and for those that want to relax and unwind. The facility includes a gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and changing rooms.

The gym is fully equipped, with a range of cardiovascular, elliptical and resistance machines, along with a wide variety of free weights. There are also fitness classes and the option to receive personal training during your time at the resort.

The spa section of the facility makes the most of the pools, sauna, and steam room, along with a spa bath to allow guests to naturally relax in their surroundings. Massages and treatments are available from a team of qualified therapists.
