Dunston Hall

Dunston Hall | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Dunston Hall is a majestic, Elizabethan-style mansion, built in 1859 and lovingly restored to its former glory. The red-brick mansion has been well maintained, and the resort now features an 18-hole golf course, health club and spa, and stunning accommodation courtesy of the QHotels brand.

The golf course is a Par 71, 18-hole layout that winds its way through the wooded estate that surrounds the mansion. Undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and plenty of water hazards are in the way of golfers looking to post a good score. The course is short compared to most at less than 6,200 yards but provides a challenge for golfers of all abilities. A 22-bay floodlit driving range with new TrackMan technology along with a short game area add to the golfing facilities at Dunston Hall.

The resort is now owned by QHotels, who are the brand owners of several other venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list. The accommodation range is as expected, with plenty of quality and lots of comfort. Classic, Deluxe, Superior and Family Rooms are available, along with the Featured Rooms and a trio of suite types, including the Kellett House Suites and the Penthouse Suite.

For those that want to work out during their stay at the Norfolk resort, Dunston Hall has a Health Club and Spa which is the perfect place. The gym is fully equipped with cardio, elliptical and resistance machines, along with free weights, while there is also a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpool. The spa section of the facility offers a range of massages and treatments from a team of qualified therapists, all with the aim of helping guests relax and unwind during their stay.

Dunston Hall Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Wooded Parkland Glory

Dunston Hall has a Par 71 layout that surrounds the Elizabethan-style mansion. The Dunston Course winds through the beautiful, wooded parkland estate. The course takes in the estate’s natural features, with undulating fairways, lakes, and strategically placed bunkers ready to catch you out.

The course is less than 6,200 yards from the tips, and thanks to the front nine only featuring a single par 5, it is less than 3,000 yards on the way out. That comes at just the 2nd hole, but it only just reaches 500 yards. The 4th and 9th are both par 3s of more than 200 yards, while the 8th is a drivable par 4 that offers a good chance at only 270 yards from the back tees.

The back nine starts with a string of par 4s, all of which are 370 yards or less, with three of those being less than 340 yards. The closing stretch of the Dunston Course is a tough run of holes, with the 15th being the longest hole on the course. 16 is the hardest hole on the course, with 17 being the final par 5 on the property. The closing hole at Dunston is a par 3 with the backdrop of the Elizabethan-style mansion. Water in front and five greenside bunkers around a small green make the final hole of the course a tough prospect.
