Takomo is a relatively new player in the golf industry. Established in 2021, this marks their second release of irons, following a three-year wait since their previous sets. Driven by extensive feedback from golfers, Takomo is making a strong start in 2026 with the introduction of three new iron sets. In this review, we put the Takomo 201 MKII Irons through their paces to see how they perform.
Designed as being the players distance iron, in the trio of Takomo’s latest release for 2026, the 201 MKII’s are aimed at golfers who have outgrown game-improvement irons.
The 201 MKII also features a shorter blade length and thinner sole. To look down at the topline it has been trimmed-down compared to the game improvement 101 MKII model.
Overall, a great set of irons for any golfer, mid or low handicap who wants a little extra forgiveness in their game. Coming in at just less than £600, they’re a real bargain!

First Impressions
The Takomo 201T MKII has a very similar initial look to the game improvement irons the 101 MKII. There is very little variation in sole thickest but over the ball you can see the 201T MKII has a more tour-inspired design with a smaller, sharper look. The blade length is a little shorter and top line is fractionally thinner.
On course performance
The 2026 model has seen some upgrades from its predecessor the Takomo 201. The hollow body design continues with a new generation of quality materials, including a more durable 17-4 cast body. Alongside this is a thinner thin 17-4 steel face aimed at creating a smoother, more satisfying feel.
Being a players distance iron the 201 MKII is all about power and distance. But, as a club designed for a wide range of handicapped golfers, it needs to provide some forgiveness with mishits. Like the game improvement 101 MKII, these irons have a variable face thickness to support off-centre strikes.
I tested these irons on the course as well as at an indoor studio using a Skytrak launch monitor and my standard golf ball a Titleist Prov1x. These clubs are also 25 grams heavier than what I usually use and so swing speed/carry distance is a little down.
Starting at the top end of the bag, the PW looked great behind the ball. All of the data was very consistent which is exactly what you want to see from a wedge. Below the data table shows the results.

Moving onto 7 iron, you can see a drop in carry distance from the Takomo 101 MK11, the game improvement set in the 2026 range. These irons have 4° less loft, which roughly equates to a few yards difference per degree. You can see this reflected in the carry distance, as the 101 MK11 averaged 146 yards over the 137 yards with the 201MK11 – outlined in the table below. As you would expect with more loft, the spin rates increased.
Finally, the 5 iron really surprised me. I’m not a huge fan of long irons but the 201 Mk11 came off the face very well. Considering the difference in loft the 201 MK11 kept up with the 101 MK11 and felt very easy to hit. The spin was slightly higher and all other data was very consistent.
NCG Verdict
Overall, the Takomo 201 MKII’s are a great set of irons for any player who is looking for a compact looking iron that still keeps some forgiveness. There is still enough sole and a topline that has enough thickest to give confidence but doesn’t make you feel like they’re ‘chunky’.
