The first thing that caught my eye on this putter was the bold white alignment line on the top of the clubhead and also the striking shaping. I always favour a mallet style putter so this is definitely up my street.

Odyssey Stroke Lab Black 10: The technology

The shaping of the Stroke Lab Black 10 is themed on Odyssey’s popular 7 and Indianapolis putter shapes. The aim was to provide a forgiving mallet with high level of performance in a multi-material head.

A clear high-def alignment system is used to make it easier for golfers to improve their aim at address. While the new micro-hinge star insert gives the same tour preferred roll benefits but with a slightly firmer feel and improved sound from previous models.

The 10 model features the same multi-material putter shaft we have seen in the rest of the Stroke Lab range. The Stroke Lab shaft is a full 40 grams lighter, made possible by an innovative new multi-material design, that combines a graphite body with a steel tip. Most of the mass is concentrated in the tip but there’s two sole weights in the head and more added to the end of the grip.

Odyssey say the effect of this weight distribution is improvements in the consistency of backswing time, face-angle at impact, ball speed, and ball direction.

Odyssey Stroke Lab Black 10: NCG verdict

I typically always use a mallet putter and this one didn’t disappoint. As soon as I picked it up the weighting and feel of the putter was great.

Aesthetically the putter sits great behind the ball and the black clubhead matches really well with the black colour of the stroke lab shaft. The white alignment line contrasts with the rest of the putter and works perfectly to get you lining the putter up correctly.

Consistently across testing I was getting a very true end over end roll that made pace putting very easy on a variety of slopes. The high levels of forgiveness also meant I didn’t have to catch the ball perfectly out of the centre of the face for me to still start the ball on line.

The alignment aids are probably the element I found helped my performance the most. If you can’t aim the putter well you’re not going to hole any putts. Not only did this putter improve my aim but I also felt very comfortable over the ball to allow me to put a good stroke on each putt.
