Adding to the success of the Tour X, FootJoy have released not one but two versions of their best-selling model. Let’s take a closer look at the new FootJoy Pro SL and Pro SL Carbon shoes for 2020…
FootJoy Pro SL 2020: First impressions

I’m a self-confessed Pro SL fanboy and have worn them for years, long before I was working for NCG, so when a new style comes out I’m always anxious about the style changes. Like the Tour X, the side strap, which we’ll learn more about later, doesn’t suit my eye. But this is the Pro SL, once they’re on you forget all about that.
As for how they felt on, the classic comfort of the Pro SL is still there but I definitely noticed more security around the foot and stability throughout the swing.

As for the Pro SL Carbon, I’ve never really worn black golf shoes and after a couple of rounds with these on, I’m not sure why.
The big takeaway though, was the extra comfort provided by the foam collar and thicker tongue. Your feet feel that little bit more snug and therefore, secure.
Now for the techy bit. I promise I’ll keep it short…
FootJoy Pro SL 2020: The technology

The new infinity outsole of the Pro SL means there are more points of contact between shoe and ground – 189 to be exact – and what FootJoy are calling the ‘Powerharness’ works in the same sort of way as the ‘Powerstrap’ on the Tour X in providing more medial and lateral stability.
This combination provides great stability and grip and is the area where I’ve noticed the most improvement.
