Where better to test the new range of FootJoy clothing than Gullane? So we headed up to the Scotland’s Golf Coast to check it out, including the brand new FootJoy HydroKnit, a pullover designed to fulfil the void between a traditional knit garment and waterproof jacket.
FootJoy HydroKnit: First impressions
OK, so this will brighten you up on a dull day. But there is so much more to discover than just its colour.
Unlike the majority of conservatively coloured heavy waterproofs living in the wardrobes of most golfers, the HydroKnit looks and feels different.
Lightweight, breathable, stylish and waterproof, what more can you ask for?
FootJoy HydroKnit: The technology
The FootJoy HydroKnit pullover features three-layer bonded knit fabric and has a DWR finish applied to bead water away.
It has a 15,000 millimetre waterproof rating, which means it is classed as “rainproof and waterproof except under high pressure” and suitable in “moderate to heavy rain”.
It also has 15,000 gram/square metre rating for moisture permeability – that’s breathability to you and me. (Basically the higher the g/sqm rating the more breathable it is.)

Raglan sleeve construction allows for unrestricted movement around the shoulders. While the elastic waistband and adjustable cuffs allow for the perfect fit. The pullover also includes an inside zip pocket for your scorecard.
The pullover also comes with a three-year waterproof guarantee.
FootJoy HydroKnit: NCG verdict
Not having a go-to waterproof on hand can kill a round quicker than a double-bogey on the 1st. So, when you find one that ticks a lot of boxes and one that has the ability of packing away into the smallest of golf bags with ease, it’s worth taking note.
If you’re not just a fair-weather golfer you’ll know that rain is only ever a few holes away, but the HydroKnit’s adjustability and half-zip design allows you to quickly adapt to any changing weather conditions.
What’s more impressive is just how quick the jacket dries out, which is so important when dealing with intermittent showers.

The fabric used means it’s very comfortable and you really don’t feel like you’re wearing a waterproof at all, which is essentially the point of it.
And let’s not forget that it’s a great looking garment that’s so lightweight it really doesn’t need to be raining for you to benefit.
