What’s new? How much does it cost? And how does it perform? Jack Backhouse brings you the low down on the Cobra DS-Adapt LS driver
Cobra have made their fastest and most fittable drivers to date in the DS-Adapt range. They have released an LS version as part of the line-up which they say is the lowest spinning and fastest driver. But just how good is the DS-Adapt LS driver? We went out to the La Cala Golf Resort in Spain to review the Cobra DS-Adapt LS Driver…
A driver that produces staggering speeds. Cobra have redesigned the head of their driver for better and more advanced aerodynamics.
The Cobra DS-Adapt LS is actually the furthest I have hit a drive from the clubs I have it this year. I also love the looks of this driver, it immediately captured my eye and felt very comfortable stood over the ball.
The low spin driver has the looks and shape that really capture my eye. It has a small, round and compact profile as well as a deeper face than other Cobra driver models.
It was more of the same story at address. Again, it was exactly what I want to see from a driver. I like the carbon fibre look and the straight line along the leading edge of the club head, as well as the two straight lines down the face. This really is as good as it gets for me in terms of driver aesthetics.
This driver head has three adjustable weights, two light weights and one heavy weight. The heavy weight can be moved forward and to the to or the heel depending on what you ball flight pattern is.
NCG Verdict
I always find that low spin drivers don’t always give you the same levels of feedback off the face as the standard or 10K driver heads, but I felt that the ball was coming off the Cobra DS-Adapt LS flat, super hot and with low spin. The distance I was able to generate was incredible, the ball flew off the club face.
Even on the miss hits I found the distance to be extremely positive and even more importantly the ball was still being put in play. It wasn’t straying too far off line, I wasn’t finding the trees or any other sort of trouble.

The use of carbon and the introduction of Cobra’s H.O.T Face technology, which is an optimised variable thickness design that allows for a more robust launch and improved face flex, enables a level of forgiveness off the tee. Even when you are using a low spin driver, the least forgiving model, you are still able to keep the ball in play. This is a far fetch from when LS drivers were virtually usable when mishit.
Additionally, Cobra have introduced a new hosel system which is designed to make the drivers easier to custom fit and find the right spec to accommodate each golfers game. The FutureFit33 hosel system allows golfers to increase or decrease the loft of the club without effecting the lie angle. Designed to help straighten and raise or lower the ball flight.
Speed is a real feature of the Cobra DS-Adapt LS driver. Both the club and ball speed I was able to produce was pretty staggering, as shown in the data. I was able to achieve a massive ball speed of 164mph, solid club speed of 110mph and pleasing the the average spin rate was 2822. If I’m able to keep those numbers up then this driver may become a feature of my bag pronto.
I was also happy with the launch and peak height of the drives, in being able to get more distance off the tee.
To summarise, this is definitely the driver I would use out of the four drivers Cobra has released as part of their DS-Adapt line-up. It produced the fastest ball, best club speed, the lowest spin and a solid launch angle degree.
For me and my game this is the best option and for the more accomplished golfers I would recommend the same. For those with a slower swing speed I would recommend a more forgiving driver.

The Cobra DS-Adapt LS actually produced the longest shot that I have hit so far this year whilst testing new clubs. This could be down to the new custom beam, which is a plate near the head of the driver, allowing for more custom weighting, better ball speed and more optimised launch. I really think you see those benefits in this low spin driver.
