Find out which new styles and technologies will keep you comfortable this winter…
The best waterproof golf jackets are the ones which can be used all-year-round but as we head into winter, we thought we’d pick out the standout new models from 2017.
You may be looking for one which you can whip out of your bag when caught in a shower or you may be after something which also works on that chilly Sunday morning walk in the countryside.
But waterproofs are very expensive so if you’re just in the market for a jacket that will keep you dry and look great on the course then look no further.
Best waterproof golf jackets – Galvin Green Achilles with C-Knit backer
The tech: The overwhelming market leaders for waterproofs have continued to innovate with materials, technologies and styles to stay ahead of their competition.
Their all-new, Japanese-made Gore-Tex fabric with C-Knit backer has a super-smooth hand feel and is designed to slide easily over garments underneath.
There’s also clever detail on the collar and sleeve of the jacket to prevent water sneaking in.
Best waterproof golf jackets – FootJoy DryJoys Tour LTS
The tech: Previous FJ jackets have had as many as 24 panels and more than 27 seams. This has just five panels and six seams, reducing weight and bulk.
This jacket will work all year round. When conditions are cool, the jacket will maintain body heat and when conditions are warm, the fibres wick moisture away.

NCG verdict: Like many of FootJoy’s staff players, we first put this jacket to the test during the Open at Royal Birkdale. We found it lightweight and stretchy but it also kept the chill of the wind at bay.
It is lighter and more stretchy than the previous DryJoys Tour XP jacket yet more substantial and warmer than the lightweight DryJoys Select.
This jacket really gives you the best of both worlds and you’ll really appreciate how stretchy it is when you start swinging in it.
Best waterproof golf jackets – Under Armour Storm Gore-Tex Paclite
The tech: As worn by Jordan Spieth, the UA Storm Paclite suit is 100 per cent waterproof but remains incredibly breathable. Both the jacket and trousers also have a windproof construction to protect you fully from the elements.
They are made from a 2.5-layer bonded fabric with a durable, smooth exterior and a brushed interior.
NCG verdict: Quite tight fitting but very stretchy so movement isn’t restricted. Really feels like you’ve got an impenetrable shell on as the water just bounces off.
We’re big fans of the simple and clean design which really won’t put anyone off. You’ll feel like a proper golfer in this.
Best waterproof golf jackets – Ping Zero Gravity Tour
The tech: The Ping Zero Gravity jacket was launched last year but has now been introduced as a full suit with a few new extra features. The jacket and the trousers are cleverly designed
so they fold into their own pockets and take up minimal space in your bag.
Both are constructed from ultra-lightweight layer fabric which Ping call Pertex Shield 2.5 – designed to offer exceptional levels of stretch and breathability ensuring complete freedom of movement throughout the swing. The jacket has an adjustable hem and cuffs while the trousers have an adjustable waist band.

NCG verdict: Ridiculously light so ideal to have in your golf bag all year round. It’s remarkable that something with so much technology can pack away so small.
The material is also really soft and smooth which makes it very comfortable to wear.
Best waterproof golf jackets – ProQuip TourFlex Lite
The tech: A knitted ultra-lightweight outer fabric with four-way stretch.
NCG verdict: ProQuip have a fantastic heritage in making top-quality waterproof gear. This jacket is much more stylish and modern than what we have seen in previous years and it’s loaded with fantastic technology.
Best waterproof golf jackets – Sunderland Vancouver
The tech: Lightweight, laminated waterproof fabric with mechanical stretch. Mesh lining for added breathability
NCG verdict: Some nice attention to detail here with the waterproof zips with branded pullers. Again, a brand which has been synonymous with waterproofs over the years so this jacket won’t let you down.
The tech: Mechanical stretch that ensures full mobility to swing. Technology also transfers moisture away from the body to keep you comfortable.
NCG verdict: We’ve been impressed with Callaway’s apparel in recent years and tour players such as Patrick Reed and Emiliano Grillo have been showcasing the clean designs on tour. We think this jacket looks great as an off-course jacket for wearing down the pub.
Best waterproof golf jackets – Oscar Jacobson Lawrie Pro
The tech: Premium three-layer shell jacket
NCG verdict: A more toned-down look from what we have seen from OJ in recent years but this jacket looks really smart. The premium materials won’t go unnoticed once you slip it on.
