The clubs Schauffele used to win the Tournament of Champions

Check out which brand new Callaway driver the American used for his sensational victory in Hawaii. Equipment editor James Savage has the details

Callaway staffer Xander Schauffele brought in the New Year with a victory for the brand new Epic Flash driver.

It is interesting because the American was using a TaylorMade M3 driver when he won at the HSBC Champions in China just a few months ago.

So Callaway will be relieved he switched into their latest model at the start of 2019.

Perfect timing eh?

And it was a victory out of the blue as he wasn’t really in contention going into Sunday but pipped Gary Woodland by one shot after a sensational final-round 62.

He was also using what looked like a bespoke version of the brand new Apex 19 Pro irons which we have also tested out recently.

Schauffele was a TaylorMade staffer when he won the Tour Championship in 2017.

He was also an Adidas player. And like Sergio Garcia he stuck with Adidas but signed a deal with Callaway after the TaylorMade-Adidas split.

His driver of choice for victory in Hawaii was the Epic Flash Sub Zero which as more weight moved closer to the face for lower spin.

In out testing we found the Sub Zero to offer a little bit more distance at the expense of a bit of forgiveness and tighter dispersion.

Schauffele obviously finds the middle more often than we do.

He has a mixture of Mack Daddy 4 and Titleist SM6 wedges.

His putter is an Odyssey O-Works Red model.
