When is the 2020 Masters?

The Masters is the only major to remain at the same course

The Masters is the first major of the year and the chance for the players to win the prestigious green jacket at one of the most famous tournaments in sport.

How will 2020 play out?

A brief history of the Masters

The Masters is scheduled for the first full week in April. However, the inaugural tournament was held in March 1934.

The tournament was set up by Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts after Jones co-designed Augusta National with Alistair McKenzie.

Since 1949 the winner has been presented with a green jacket for winning the tournament. They are free to take it outside the Augusta National grounds until the next tournament and then the jacket must remain at Augusta National.

Did you know…

A tradition at the Masters is for the current champion to host the champions dinner and pick what will be on the menu. All the past champions are invited as well as certain Augusta board members.

Jack Nicklaus holds the record for the most Masters as well as being the oldest winner while Tiger Woods holds the record for the youngest winner at 21 years and 104 days when he won in 1997.

The Masters is the smallest field out of the four majors as it is an invitational tournament held by Augusta National Golf Club.

Where is the Masters held?

The Masters is held at Augusta National Golf Club every year. The course is located in the town of Augusta in Georgia and is around two hours from Atlanta.

When is the 2020 Masters tournament?

The 84th edition of the tournament will be played between Thursday 9 April and Sunday 12 April 2020.

The tournament as usual will be preceded by Wednesday’s par 3 Contest. The late Arnold Palmer was victorious around the 1,060 yard course a whopping five times.

When is the reigning Masters champion?

The defending champion heading into 2020 will be confirmed after the 2019 tournament.

Matthew Beedle

National Club Golfer and National Club Golfer magazine

Matthew has been playing golf since he was around 13 and took up the game at a local nine-hole municipal course with his friends before joining Pontefract & District Golf Club just over the hedge.

Still a member of Pontefract with a handicap of 3, he currently sits on the board of directors to help with digital and marketing initiatives in order to improve membership and visitor income.

Matthew graduated university with a First Class in Sports Journalism from Leeds Trinity University and has been working in the golf industry since graduating.

NCG’s social media & marketing manager, Matthew’s main job role is to increase website traffic to the National Club Golfer website via our email and social media channels as well as driving entries to grow our NCG Top 100s Tour events amongst other tasks.

Not one to change his equipment too often, Matthew currently plays the TaylorMade M2 driver which has lasted the test of time in his bag. Elsewhere, you’ll find him using the TaylorMade Stealth 2 three-wood with a Ping G425 Crossover 2-iron to aid his long game.

Through his 4-iron to Gap Wedge, Matthew uses the Ping i500 irons accompanied by Ping’s Glide 3.0 56-degree and 60-degree wedges.

Another club that has stood the test of time in his bag is a Nike Method Core MC-3i putter which has had to have the SuperStroke grip changed at least three times. Ball of choice is the Titleist ProV1.
