Top 5: Ping Anser wins
We recently chatted to PING CEO John Solheim about the brands 50th anniversary of the Anser putter.
The Anser putter has been responsible for in excess of over 500 professional wins since 1966, and 19 Major championships.
We take a look at the top 5 wins with the Anser putter..
1- George Archer, US Masters 1969
George Archer won 13 times on the PGA Tour, including the 1969 Masters. What was more special about this particular win, is that it was the first professional win using the Anser putter.
2- Seve Ballesteros, The Open 1984
Seve won five Major titles with an Anser putter, but his Open triumph at St Andrews in 1984 was arguably his most memorable.
Heading to the 18th tee needing a birdie, Ballesteros wedged to 15-feet and with his Anser putter in hand, rolled the birdie putt in.
A Tom Watson error on the Road Hole meant that the Spaniard had won his fourth Major title ahead of the American and Bernhard Langer.
3- Louis Oosthuizen, The Open 2010
The South African blew away the field at the home of golf back in 2010, when he won his maiden Major title with a 7-shot victory.
Only Tiger Woods with an eight-stroke victory on the Old Course in 2000 had won by more since 1913.
Oosthuizen made 20 birdies with his Anser putter over the four days and only six bogeys in treacherous conditions on the links.
4- Mark Calcavecchia, The Open 1989
Mark Calcavvechia won his only Major title in a three-man playoff with Greg Norman and Wayne Grady.
With two birdies in the four playoff holes, Calcavvechia became the first American to win the Open in six years.
5- Bubba Watson, US Masters 2012 & 14
The exuberant Watson won two green jackets in three years using the Anser putter.
In 2012 he beat Louis Oosthuizen in a playoff to win his maiden Major title, and in 2014 he finished three shots ahead of Jonas Blixt and Jordan Spieth.
