Woods jets in for crunch PGA Tour talks as LIV threat deepens
15-time major champion Tiger Woods will be involved in an emergency meeting with PGA Tour stars and officials alike. Here’s what we know so far
Tiger Woods is to meet with a group of PGA Tour stars ahead of this week’s BMW Championship in an effort to rally support and fend off the ongoing threat of LIV Golf.
According to reports, Woods will arrive in Wilmington ahead of the second FedEx Cup Playoffs event to meet with several of world’s best – including Rory McIlroy, the director of the Player Advisory Council, and Justin Thomas – as well as a handful of other influential PGA Tour members.
“It’s a meeting to get the top 20 players in the world on the same page on how we can continue to make the PGA Tour the best product in professional golf,” an unnamed PGA Tour player told ESPN.
Woods was last seen at The Open where he continued to speak out against the threat of the LIV. This was followed by reports that the 15-time major winner rejected a mouth-watering nine digit offer to join the breakaway league.
One player who almost certainly won’t be at the meeting is Cameron Smith. Following the most dramatic of weeks – in which he dropped hints that he’ll be joining LIV – the Aussie has withdrawn from the BMW Championship due to injury.
