‘I don’t feel wanted!’ Sergio makes decision on DP World Tour (and Ryder Cup) future
Sergio Garcia is not happy with how things have gone since he defected to LIV Golf. So have we seen the last of the Ryder Cup’s record points scorer?
Sergio Garcia has announced he plans to quit the DP World Tour after 23 years on the circuit, a decision which looks set to eradicate any hopes of competing in the Ryder Cup once again.
Having already resigned his PGA Tour membership after defecting to LIV Golf, the Spaniard has now revealed he will be ending his tenure with the DP World Tour.
“I like to play where they love me, and on the European circuit right now I don’t feel loved,” Garcia told Spanish press following his final round at The Open.
“I have given more than half my life to the European Tour and I wanted to continue playing it. But I’m not going to be where they don’t want me. It is very sad to receive that treatment by a personal and professional decision.
“If they treat you like that, it’s not worth following.”
Garcia has won 16 times on the DP World Tour, but was suspended by the circuit for three events due to his involvement in the breakaway series.
In terminating his long-term membership with the Tour and committing himself to the Saudi Arabian-funded league, Garcia now makes himself ineligible for any future Ryder Cup under the tournament’s qualification rules.
A Ryder Cup legend, Garcia has made nine appearances for Team Europe and is the tournament’s record points scorer with 28 and a half to his name.
