Sam Horsfield WITB 2020

Two eagles and 10 birdies – but it’s ‘only’ a 59 for Horsfield

Another week, another ridiculous scorecard. This time it's courtesy of European Tour young gun Sam Horsfield

If there is one thing we’ve enjoyed during the lockdown period is seeing some ridiculous scorecards. Our particular favourite was Richard Mansell playing 16 holes in 50 shots before finishing 5-5 for an excruciating 60, but Sam Horsfield managed to go one better.

We all know this is what you’re here for, so let’s get straight to the good stuff…

There is so much to dissect here. How about the beautiful symmetry of front and back nine that each consisted of five birdies and an eagle?

And 14-under? That’s a 58 at the very worst, right? Possibly a 56. Nope, Streamsong’s Black course is a par 73 so his incredible score only broke 60 by a single shot. (We reckon he’ll get over that, though.)

And spare a thought for playing partner Sierra, who was 3-under through 7 but 3-down to Horsfield. (Sierra, incidentally, lost this imaginary match play battle 4&3 despite a solid 68.)

Florida resident Horsfield, who opened up to NCG in a fascinating chat about life on the European Tour, carded a 62 at the 2019 Scandinavian Masters, his best so far since making the step up to the main circuit in 2018.
