How Rory’s equipment has changed through the years

Equipment editor Hannah Holden delves into the different bags of Rory McIlroy since he burst onto the scene in 2007

A TaylorMade staffer for some while now, the four-time major champion has chopped and changed his setup since turning pro. Let’s take a look at Rory McIlroy’s gear through the years…

Rory McIlroy’s gear through the years: 2007

When Rory joined the pro ranks back in 2007 he immediately signed with Titleist, the brand he had been using as an amateur.

He stuck to a similar set-up through out his years with Titleist pairing blade irons with Vokey wedges and a Scotty Cameron blade putter.

Although the brand was new McIlroy kept a familiar setup, putting the Nike VR Pro blades in play with similar aesthetics to his Titleist MB irons. He was also known to put his Scotty in play on numerous occasions.

Rory McIlroy’s gear through the years: 2017

McIlroy suddenly became a free agent in August of 2016 when Nike announced they would be dropping out of the hardware game.

He kept the Nike gear in play that year including his victory at the Tour Championship which secured him the FedEx Cup.

It wasn’t until 2017 we saw him begin to tweak his setup and he teed it up at the Masters with nearly a full bag of Callaway equipment in play.

Looking at this bag setup many people believed a new deal with Callaway was imminent. So it came as quite a surprise when McIlroy was snapped up by TaylorMade on a full bag and ball deal not long after he left Augusta.

Since then he has put numerous of TaylorMade’s technology to the test. Of course with his dominance off the tee it is the M2, M5 and now the SIM driver that have grabbed most of our attentions.

Perhaps one of the biggest improvements in his game since joining TaylorMade has been on the putting green. The switch to the Spider X certainly seemed to influence this.
