Powakaddy FX7 GPS trolley review

All the Gear: The 2020 PowaKaddy range two years in the making and worth the wait

In her latest All the Gear column, our equipment expert has been to see the new trolleys from PowaKaddy – and it's safe to say she's a fan

Hello everyone. Another week, another 6,000 miles added to the mileage of my car as Andy and I trek up and down the country to visit manufacturers – why are they all based down south? – to talk through plans for 2020. We also completed our final custom fitting at Ping ahead of rounding out our best drivers of the year test. That one’s coming soon!

We also went to meet the folks at Powakaddy, who have some very exciting news…

PowaKaddy’s most technologically advanced family to date

PowaKaddy have revealed the 10th reimagining of their Freeway range – the FX Collection – and it’s not often I get excited about an electric trolley.

Headlined by the new FX7 GPS, the world’s first GPS electric trolley to feature touchscreen technology, you control everything from a 3.5-inch, full colour LCD screen that offers distances to the front, middle, and back of each green – as well as those pesky hazards – for more than 40,000 courses across the world. You can also use it as a scorecard, which is handy for those of us that always lose pencils.

There is also the FX7 model, with Powakaddy’s re-engineered chassis, as well as nice touches like the distance measurement function and calorie counter on a 3.5″ colour display.

The new FX5, meanwhile, is perfect if you’re looking for something in the mid-price point range. It features the distance function on a 2.8″ colour display as well as PowaKaddy’s all-new stealth wheels.

And finally in this collection is the FX3. The perfect entry-level electric trolley features a 2.3″ full colour display, height adjustability, and soft-touch handles.

The whole FX collection features the new PowaKaddy Lithium 30v Max battery that they’re calling the “Plug’n’Play”. They say it’s the thinnest, lightest and most powerful golf trolley battery on the market, and – here’s the best bit – you don’t even have to take it off to fold the trolley.

This range has been two years in the making and I think we can all agree it was worth the wait.

Thinking of picking one up? Here is how much each will set you back…

Wait, that’s not all…

If that isn’t enough, PowaKaddy have also completely overhauled their compact range. So much so, they’re now calling it ultra-compact.

The brand have created what they’re calling the “Simple-2-Fold” system – and having seen it first hand I can vouch it is very easy to use. It also means the new Compact CT6 – which replaces 2019’s popular C2i – and CT6 GPS can fold down to 20% smaller than its predecessor – as pictured here.

The higher-spec CT6 features a fully-integrated GPS system accessible via a 2.8″ full-colour widescreen display while, you will notice from the photos, the wheels are now inverted when folded. Pretty clever, eh?

The CT6, meanwhile, weighs in at just 9.8 kilograms – 5% lighter than previous models – and the range also features the “Plug’n’Play” battery.

More Puma limited edition gear

There was some non-trolley news this week and I love this Puma gear Rickie Fowler will be wearing at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The range includes a stand bag, shoes, and cap, and a limited amount of the gear will be released online later this year for those that want to pick some up.

The new Puma x Arnold Palmer range is designed to give a modern take on the classic designs Palmer wore throughout his career and will be expanded to include clothing. All profits from the range will go towards the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation.

It will all be available in June. For more information head to the Cobra website.

Golf shoes from Rife?

No you’re not reading that wrong. Rife are well known for their putters but now they have entered a new market in the UK, introducing the 2020 Rife shoe collection.

Powakaddy

The range features four spikeless shoes designed for performance and stability throughout the golf swing. Comfort is maximised via the rebound cushioning and a specifically moulded Rife insole.

Prices start from £49.99, find out more on the American golf website.
