Play & Stay: Oulton Hall, Leeds

Revel in the magnificence of Oulton Hall, just a stones throw away from Leeds City centre...

Stay:

Entering through the gates and down the driveway at Oulton Hall you feel a sense on anticipation of what is around the corner. Tree-lined with some sneak peaks of the golf course you get the feeling straight away you are about to stay somewhere pretty special.

Walking towards the 18th century mansion you are welcomed by a very well dressed doorman who greets you with a warm embrace.

The marble pillars at the reception area leads to what only can be described as a truly magnificent ‘Grand Hall’, the heart of the whole building that features modern leather seats, a modern looking piano and a fantastic view of the suites above.

You wonder how this place can get any better, that is until you walk into your room. The true feeling of royalty is felt here with all the latest mod cons in a rang of suits, special ‘VIQ’ and standard rooms available at a very reasonable price.

All 152 rooms in the complex come with Egyptian cotton duvets that makes you quietly sink into your bed and feel right at home.

With a continental and full english buffet breakfast included in your stay, it sets you up for a great day on the course.

Play:

After your night of luxury what better way to start your morning with a  round of golf.

Oulton Hall is home to some of the finest 27 holes of  parkland golf in Yorkshire, with a good mix of par 4’s and par 5’s complimented by strategic par 3’s.

The Calverley Course (1-18) has a number of fantastic holes, none more so than the 15th. A short but blind par 4 with trees to the left and right with a narrow opening if you decide to layup.

To go for the green you need to be brave, aiming over the 14th tee box with a bit of a cut is a perfect line, but it’s not for the faint hearted.

If 18 holes isn’t enough for you then you are in luck. The Dave Thomas design boasts another loop of nine holes known at the ‘Hall Course’.

Starting with a generous short par 4 these nine holes offer some more fantastic views and scenery as you trundle your way up the slopes to the highest point on the golf course.

A 160-yard par 3 closes out your golfing experience at Oulton Hall, leaving you with a short walk back to the stylish clubhouse.

Extras:

After 27 holes of golf your body will be in need of a good therapeutic massage, something you can get at the magnificent spa and leisure facilities on offer at Oulton Hall.

A holistic massage, hot stone treatment or enzyme advanced facial will have you feeling on top of the world and ready for your afternoon round.

If all that golf and spa treatments leaves you feeling a bit peckish why not get yourself down to the grill restaurant and indulge in it’s luxurious choice of dishes.

Head Butler Peter McMahon and his brilliant team will serve up afternoon tea in the drawing room, overlooking the fabulous gardens surrounding the complex if you want something on the lighter side.

Are you now feeling in need of a session in the gym to work off all that sumptuous food? Well Oulton Hall offers it all with a state of the art health centre equipped with weight machines, free weights and cardio to offer a comprehensive range of activities for you to get stuck into.
