Mickelson hits new low after Saudi heckle
Phil Mickelson may be raking in the cash, but his reputation continues to sink. This week’s LIV Golf event at Bedminster was no different, as George Cooper explains
The demise of Phil Mickelson continued at the LIV Golf New Jersey event at Bedminster.
Two weeks on from missing the cut at The Open, Lefty began proceedings at LIV’s third invitational by walking out to ‘Thunderstruck’ by AC/AD, before then being heckled by a man ahead of the shotgun start in New Jersey. (That man turned out to be actor Jason Selvig.)
Anyway, if you’re wondering what was shouted, here it is in all its glory…
Despite denying he wasn’t flustered by the incident, Mickelson then gave his loyal fans nothing to shout about as he registered another miserable display, ending the event on 6-over par to finish 35th.
Astonishingly, the six-time major winner now hasn’t recorded a round under par in a professional tournament since February.
The LIV Golf extravaganza moves onto Boston next, where Mickelson will hoping to end his dreaded drought.
