WITB: Pat Perez – CIMB Classic
Pat Perez landed another win in 2017 for the ‘PXG Troops’ using the 0311 irons were involved in the TaylorMade controversy.
The brand’s founder and owner Bob Parsons claimed the new TaylorMade P790 had breached several patents relating to the 0311 irons.
The case was dismissed but there are undoubted similarities between the two products.
Anyway, we know from meeting him that Mr Parsons will be absolutely thrilled to see his products being used to win trophies on the PGA Tour.
Perez is by no means one of the longest hitters on tour and the key to his -24 winning score in Malaysia was hitting 86 percent of greens in regulation.
The 41-year-0ld uses the 0311XF in the longer irons as they are larger and more forgiving than the regular 0311 which he uses from 5-PW.
He also mixes it up with the wedges with the super-premium milled Sugar Daddy and Zulu models.
Despite being a fully-fledged member of the PXG Troops, it isn’t a 14-club deal as Perez uses the TaylorMade M2 driver.
Most other PXG players – including Billy Horschel, James Hahn and Zach Johnson – use the impressive 0811 driver.
Perez’s shoes have also caught the eye this week which are the Nike Air Jordan 6 which were released a couple of years ago.
