The new Odyssey Redball putter is among the exciting new equipment releases from the past couple of weeks.
It’s traditionally a quiet time of the year for new product when the season is up and running but brands like Callaway and TaylorMade like to keep things ticking over.
The Odyssey Redball putter is an interesting one as it claims to help golfers with their set up, getting their eyes and the putter in the right place.
New @odysseygolf Red Ball ?
• Red Ball high: Eyes are too far outside
• Low: Eyes are too far inside
• Too far left: Eyes are too far in front of the ball/putter
• Too far right: Eyes are too far behind the ball/putter
• Centre: Perfectly aligned! pic.twitter.com/ndhGs2fC4O— James Savage (@JamesSavageNCG) July 10, 2018
This isn’t a new concept, SeeMore have been using a red dot on their putters for many years under a similar principle.
The Redball features a red ball (duh) which sits beneath a hole on the top of the putter and the aim is to get the ball in the middle of the circle which will ensure the right set-up.
Now this product may work for lots of people but it seems to be based on the principle of having your eyes directly over the ball.
Some coaches will advise players to have their eyes inside the ball.
So as with all golf equipment there shouldn’t be a ‘one-size fits all’ approach. The Redball may be absolutely ideal for some, but not everyone.
Odyssey say the Redball is a face-balanced mallet putter with Versa high-contrast alignment and a White Hot face insert.

You don’t need us to remind you what our thoughts are on the TaylorMade P790 irons which came out on top in our 2018 irons test.
And now they are available in black – while stocks last.
Hats off to TaylorMade for their new marketing video too. It certainly makes we want to go and see P790 Black at the cinema…

The brand say the range features their most advanced waterproof and windproof garments ever put into play.
Galvin Green have created four new garments for the team to wear in Paris.
“All four new hi-tech garments have been designed in close collaboration with Thomas Bjørn, who knew precisely what he wanted and was keen to blend the classic Navy and Swedish blue colourways with flashes of white and add the European flag on the back,” said Christian Nilsson, CEO of Galvin Green.
