All the Gear: Meet the new Mizuno golf ball that’s turning heads

In All the Gear the news that's caught our equipment expert's eye include double-dimpled balls, a new high-tech trolley, and a polo shirt designed to save the planet

Hello everyone. It’s been another busy few weeks at NCG Towers. We’ve reviewed just about every new piece of equipment in 2020 and we’ve started work on our upcoming gear tests, starting with the best drivers of the year which has seen us travel the country to visit all the game’s biggest brands to be custom fit. Keep an eye out for that in the coming weeks, it’s going to be the most comprehensive comparison test we’ve ever done.

Elsewhere, we’ve reviewed the new Skechers shoes, talked wedge grinds with Bob Vokey, and gushed over our new FootJoy kit.

I mean, just look at these beauties…

One package that dropped on my desk recently really caught my eye. The Lynx Prowler driving iron arrives completely plastic free. It’s nice to see Lynx taking the lead on making the golf industry more sustainable.

Anyway, here’s some gear news that’s caught my eye…

A lovely touch from Motocaddy

Motocaddy have unveiled their new line of trolleys for 2020 including the flagship M5 GPS model.

Motocaddy M5 GPS

The big new feature on this trolley is the GPS with a touchscreen display usable in all weather conditions and controllable even when wearing a glove. Especially handy in this current cold snap we’re having.

The GPS features over 40,000 golf courses and displays distances to the front, middle and back of greens – the new touchscreen function also allows you to move the flag position on the screen which is pretty neat.

All the trolleys have been given a makeover with new styling to the handles, frame and wheels. For the first time all trolleys in the range include adjustable distance control, accessory station and USB charging port.

The Motocaddy GPS app also allows you to connect your trolley and smartphone so you can keep up with your notifications directly from the touchscreen which your phone is tucked away in your bag.

Like other M Series trolleys the new models feature the easilock bag connection system to keep your clubs safely in place.

This simple to use compact trolley will fit easily in your boot. The DHC version maintains a constant speed when travelling on gradients and also features an electronic parking brake.

Motocaddy M3 Pro

Modernised for 2020 the M3 Pro now features adjustable distance control up to 60 yards as well as driver, round and life distance measurements and a handy round timer. It is also available in DHC.

Plastic bottle t-shirt

A golf shirt made from plastic bottles? I’m all ears. This new eco-polo comes from a company called All 19 Holes – presumably because their clothes look as good off the course as they do on it – and is made entirely from plastic bottles.

Each shirt is upcycled from between eight to 12 bottles which have been retrieved from the ocean, a lake, or landfill.

Available: Now
RRP: £69

Dimples on dimples

Check out the crazy dimple pattern on these new Mizuno golf balls. The RB566 balls feature a grand total of 566 dimples. To put that in context there are 360 dimples on their RB Tour ball.

The new pattern isn’t just designed to be aesthetically pleasing, it apparently helps keep the ball in the air for longer – and you don’t need me to tell you that more hang time means extra yardage off the tee for you.

What do you think? I can’t wait to get my hands on them to see if it really works.

Available: TBC
RRP: TBC
