While clubs often take centre stage in the early-year launches, it's easy to overlook the latest golf balls to the market. Here's what you'll be hitting further this year
It’s been all go in the world of equipment in 2020, with new gear from TaylorMade, Cobra, Callaway, Odyssey and Titleist to name but a few. But what about the one piece of equipment we use for EVERY shot – the golf ball? Over the next few pages are the new golf balls fresh on the market this year…
New golf balls: Titleist Tour Speed
The Tour Speed, Titleist tell me, is designed to give you more distance thanks to the new high-speed core formulation and an ionomer casing layer for those extra yards. They deliver more distance by reducing long game spin.
A brand new 346 quadrilateral dipyramid dimple design – try saying that 10 times in a row – delivers a penetrating ball flight adding tight dispersion to the extra distance.
Don’t worry, your short game won’t suffer. The thermoplastic urethane cover was specifically formulated by Titleist R&D chemists to help generate more spin around the greens.
“Our golf ball scientists and engineers have gone to extraordinary lengths in the development of Tour Speed – testing numerous core formulations and aerodynamic patterns, while formulating and analysing hundreds of TPU cover blends – to deliver on that promise,” Michael Mahoney, Titleist’s vice president of golf ball marketing, explains. “We have made every investment necessary in these new technologies, including a significant expansion of our manufacturing facility and process.”
As always, I can’t wait to get my hands – and clubs – on these balls, so keep your eyes on NCG for a full review in the coming weeks.
