NCG 2014 Driver Test - TaylorMade Jet Speed/SLDR
TaylorMade SLDR/SLDR TP – GOLD AWARD WINNER
“Great looks, sound and flight”
SRP: £349/399 Loft: 9.5, 10.5 & 12
Stock shafts: Fujikura Speeder 57/67/TS 6.3
DM – There’s no doubt the SLDR is low spinning and that means you need more loft to keep the ball in the air. If you do that then the SLDR is long – because the ball is moving forwards, rather than up – throughout its flight. The looks are great.
JW – The best-looking driver TaylorMade have brought out for years. It performs really well once you’ve got the right spec. I like the subtle graphics on the crown.
PC – I got on with this much better than the JetSpeed, perhaps because I hit my drives quite high. It seemed to suit me.
Hot: The SLDR has got the industry talking – fitted properly it’s a great driver.
Not: Buy without trying and you might struggle to dial it in.
TaylorMade JetSpeed/JetSpeed TP
“Fast ball speeds with a distinct lack of fuss”
SRP: £249/£329 Lofts: 9.5, 10.5, HL/9.5, 10.5
Stock shaft: Matrix Velox T 49/ST 60
PC – I like the look. I was expecting something special but I didn’t quite get it
JW – Light and lots of loft is a good combination for me. It didn’t sit closed and worked very well for me.
DM – My ball speeds were high with both versions and the TP shaft kept the spin down
Hot: Full TaylorMade performance for under £250
Not: It’s not as technologically advanced as the SLDR
