NCG SUMMARY

The Motocaddy M7 GPS trolley is the ultimate electric golf trolley. It does everything. Small footprint in your boot? Check. Easy to put up and down? Check. Advanced GPS with 40,000 courses already pre-loaded? Obviously.

Owning this trolley means you are prepared for everything. It’s basically just like having a caddy, except it doesn’t roll its eyes when you accidentally do exactly the opposite of what it tells you to do.

PROS

  • Remote control is loads of fun
  • Very easy to assemble
  • There are literally no features this trolley doesnt have
  • Folds down very compact

CONS

  • Heavy when lifting in and out of the car
  • Remote control takes some getting used to for a first time user

First Impressions

This trolley can do a lot more than you would expect it to. I had to read the list a few times just to get my head around all of the features, and there are still probably a few I’ve yet to use, even after a few rounds of golf.

Unboxing the M7 GPS it has a real premium feel to it. The grey colours give me a Range Rover vibe, and all the parts feel strong and sturdy.

Impressively this trolley is really easy to get up and down. Motocaddy have come a long way on this front (the original M1 trolley was somewhat like a Rubix cube of a puzzle to solve), and it practically folds up and down in a couple of seconds, and the support rear wheel clips in very easily.

It also comes with a 12-month subscription to Motocaddy’s cellular powered Performance Plan software, which gives you in-depth course details and stats tracking, which would be great for identifying areas to improve on.

So far, so good. But what happened when I got to the course?

Motocaddy M7 GPS Golf Trolley: NCG Review

I’m not really an electric trolley user. I have an old one, but when the ropes come out in winter, the trolley goes away, and I’ve just not got around to getting it back out again. My view was carrying was easier. Oh, how wrong I was.

The M7 GPS immediately ticks a lot of boxes for me. I love the compact folding, which takes up very little space in my car.

The GPS feature is wonderful; I’m no longer faffing around trying to find my GPS, I know straight away when I get to my ball how far it is to the front, middle and back, and you can even move the pin position on the green to know roughly how far it is to pin location.

The remote to a bit of getting used to as I’ve never used one before; it reminded me of using Scalextrix as a kid. I charged up the remote using the USB charging port and loved not constantly having to adjust the speed settings as one would be too fast and one too slow for my walking speed. I could just set it off, maintaining a constant speed, and then stop it next to the destination.

I tested this trolley at my home course, Sand Moor golf club, in a variety of weather conditions. The first in 3 hours of torrential rain and the rest of the time in fairly good weather.

This trolley was an incredible ally in the rain. Motocaddy have designed anti-skid tread on the wheels which meant it had no trouble getting up and down the hills of north Leeds, and it carried my clubs around the course in style.

I was really impressed at how well the LCD display worked in the rain; usually, touch screens and water don’t mix well, but I was able to use it all the way around with no issue.

You don’t have to use the remote if you don’t want to; you can switch to handle control when preferred. This might be when scaling the side of a steep slope. The only thing it took a while for me to get used to was how quickly the trolley stops when you turn off the power to the wheels.

I am used to switching the power off and then having some ‘freewheel’ time, but I was caught off guard by the excellent braking system and walked into it a couple of times.

Another notable feature is being able to hook up your phone to the trolley to be able to receive notifications on the trolley. This might not be for everyone, but I quite liked being able to see what was coming through and if any of it was worth replying to – it never is.

Motocaddy M7 GPS Golf Trolley review

There was no doubt the trolley saved me some shots that day in the rain. It was great not to be fighting wet gear and carrying my bag that day. I’ve since used it in a tournament where I was able to get all necessary items and a dozen necessary items in my bag, which I would never do when carrying.

I’ve not considered using a trolley full time as I do love a small single-strap pencil bag, but with life being so much easier on the Motocaddy M7 GPS trolley, I might just find that the trolley comes out a lot more this season.

Motocaddy M7 GPS: Final thoughts

At £1499 this trolley is a sizable investment, but it should be viewed as just that. The trolley has so many features that either make your life easier or can actually help you play better golf; surely, it’s worth taking every advantage you can get.

It’s incredibly easy to set up, just as easy to fold, and it’s a really sturdy construction, and a comfortable handle, which means it’s very easy to get around the course – no matter what kind of layout you may have to negotiate.

The only possible criticism is that with the battery in, it is quite heavy getting in and out of the car.
