I have also recently been for a fitting at Mizuno’s new tour fitting suite at Bearwood Lakes where I have had a chance to compare all three of the JPX919 irons.
Mizuno JPX919 Forged irons review: First impressions
The JPX919 Forged follow on from the JPX900 Forged which were released a couple of years ago.
The 900 Forged were Mizuno’s best-selling forged iron of all time so clearly went down well with golfers.
One of the reasons for their success was the fact they look and feel great but still offer distance and forgiveness for those who need it.
I had previously used the Mizuno JPX850 Forged which we definitely in the same vein.
It was always going to be a tall order for Mizuno to improve on the 900 Forged in a relatively short time frame.
But they have certainly improved the aesthetics. These are about as good as it gets for irons in this category.
Mizuno JPX919 Forged irons review: The technology
Mizuno have continued to use their boron-infused carbon steel in the JPX919 Forged which is what allows them to pack a bit more of a punch than the sleeker 919 Tour.
But they also feature the same HD grain flow forging process as the 919 Tour and the MP-18 irons which improves the sound and feel.
Weight has been removed from the face which allows a lower, deeper centre of gravity making it easier to launch the mid and long irons.
You can see there is a fair bit of perimeter weighting on these clubs for added stability but the topline is still quite thin.
Another great thing about the JPX919 range is the fact Mizuno offer no upcharge on a wide range of premium shafts.
