Jordan Smith secured his first win on the European Tour and at the same time notched up the first win for the new Mizuno MP-18 irons.

It couldn’t have come at a better time for Mizuno as the new MP-18s are actually launching this week.

And I had a close encounter with Smith’s brand new set as I stepped on to the Mizuno tour truck at The Open (he was first reserve and didn’t actually make it into the field).

When I first saw them, I thought they were for me… But I will be hitting them at a Mizuno launch event this week.

Smith has a really nice mix of gear in his bag kicking off with the TaylorMade M1 but in the more compact 440 headshape.

He also has a couple of the TaylorMade M2 Tour fairway woods as used by Rory McIlroy.

I spotted him with a brand new Titleist 718 T-MB utility iron in Germany this week – the same club which Jordan Spieth famously hit from the driving range in his final round at Royal Birkdale.

Then we get stuck into the new MP-18 irons which we’re not really allowed to talk about yet. Bear with us for all the details but in the meantime, here’s a teaser.

Then we have the Titleist Vokey SM6 wedges which were the number one model at The Open.

And Smith uses a very similar putter to world number one Dustin Johnson – the TaylorMade Spider Tour Black.
