Happy New Year 2020

Happy New Year from everyone at NCG

As we move into 2020, our editor picks out his favourite pieces the NCG team produced in a record-breaking year

Hello. And a very happy New Year to you.

I just wanted to write a quick note to say thank you and use this opportunity to remind ourselves of little selection of what my incredibly talented team have put together for your enjoyment in what was a record-breaking year for NationalClubGolfer.com.

We’ll start towards the end of 2019, as the much-anticipated NCG Top 100s website launched with plenty of fanfare – so if course rankings are your thing then there is no better place to start, and you can lose yourself for hours in the Top 100 lists for GB&I, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Continental Europe.

Our ‘Tour Team’, made up of Mark Townsend and Joe Hughes, have had a jam-packed year. I particularly enjoyed Mark’s piece on Tommy Fleetwood ahead of Everyone’s Favourite English Golfer hosting the British Masters, while his insights at Q School in November were unrivalled in the industry.

Joe, meanwhile, has conducted several fine interviews with players from the women’s tours this year – and I really liked him joining in the annual KO blows of Sports Personality of the Year.

I also joined the tour party a bit this year and took on a couple of very exciting trips. In February, NCG was the only UK media present at a day with Jordan Spieth at his home course in Dallas, where he talked us through his wins at the Open as well as the Masters before we essentially become best friends.

Then in November I headed to Miami where I met Rickie Fowler, who chatted about his career, laid into the Rules of Golf, and answered some fun reader’s questions.

Our club golf expert Steve Carroll has had a fun year. He resurrected the Angry Club Golfer to roaring success, while at the other end of the spectrum his interview with previously homeless greenkeeper Jack Percival was incredibly moving, as was his piece with Jack Newton, the tour star who lost an arm in a freak accident. Both are well worth 15 minutes of your time.

Steve also conducted a special investigation into coastal erosion and the golf courses that are literally falling into the sea, if you fancy a long but incredibly fascinating read.

And finally, this year we formed our new ‘Tech Team’, consisting of equipment editor Hannah Holden, a +1 golfer out of Lightcliffe, and instruction editor, Andrew Wright, who plays off 2 at Royal Troon (not that he goes on about it).

Hannah asked some very important questions this year, including a very thoughtful piece on why golf equipment shouldn’t be defined by gender, and some interesting insight into why we’re only allowed to carry 14 clubs.

Andy, meanwhile, only started in September, but whether it be commentating on tour pros or offering his own advice he has quickly established himself as a competent voice in golf instruction.

NCG will continue to be your go-to website for all your tour, club, equipmentinstruction and course rankings needs in 2020 and beyond, so stick with us next year for all this team has to offer. And don’t forget to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and subscribe to our YouTube channel too.

That’s enough from me. Before you go, be sure to have a read through our end of year and end of decade round-ups, as well as our Equipment Awards, which have been painstakingly put together in recent weeks and are thoroughly entertaining. Do you agree with our Player of the Year or our Player of the Decade?

So, once again, happy New Year and thank you – because we couldn’t do it without you.
